Not that long ago, Mexican food wasn’t readily available. Mexican Food became more famous after Taco Bell was established in the United States. There are many great Mexican restaurants around the country, particularly in Texas. There are many different ways to cook Mexican food in different parts of the country. For example, South Texas has a different way of cooking Mexican food than New Mexico. The food is made with more green chilies in New Mexico.
Torta Ahogada
Torta ahogada, which is Mexican-style food, is a kind of French dip sandwich. It is native to Guadalajara. A bolillo bread piece is filled with meat and then placed on a plate with a sauce made from chili pepper and spicy tomato. Spanish for “drowned”, “Ahogado” means “drowned”. The sauce is poured over the sandwich, and the bread absorbs the sauce to infuse all the flavors. It’s usually served with avocado and pickled onions. This dish is spicy and can make you sweat so I recommend ordering water. This was my favorite torta sandwich and I hope to find the same in San Francisco.
Tacos and Tortillas
A taco is a Mexican traditional dish that consists of a tortilla wrapped around a filling. You can use a variety of fillings, including meat, chicken, seafood, and vegetables. This is a finger food that is served with salsa and cilantro as well as tomatoes, onions, lettuce, and tomatoes. Enchilada is a rolled tortilla filled with similar ingredients to tacos but with hot sauce. Enchiladas can also be filled with beans and potatoes. Tostada is a tortilla that has been deep-fried until it becomes crispy and then served flat with beans and cheese on top. You can eat it as a snack called totopo, or as a base for many other dishes.
Burritos and the Quesadilla
A burrito uses tortillas to wrap or wrap around a filling. To soften the tortilla and make it more malleable, it is often lightly grilled or steam. Refried beans, Mexican rice, or meat are the most common fillings in Mexico. The tortilla is usually smaller in size. Burrito, which is Spanish for “little donkey”, comes from the Spanish word burro. Burrito may have been named after the appearance of a rolled tortilla that vaguely resembles the ear of an animal donkey.
A quesadilla, a Mexican dish that consists mainly of cheese in a tortilla. The tortilla is then cooked until the cheese melts. Sometimes, the cheese is mixed with another ingredient to give the dish a different flavor. Quesadilla literally means “cheesy tortilla” in Spanish.
